Escapely’s virtual murder mystery is a fully hosted and immersive group murder mystery. Our mystery games for virtual team building are specifically built to maximize engagement. Our actors don’t just read a monologue – they interact with participants, answer questions, ad lib, and make sure everyone has a blast. Participants need to develop a strategy as a team. Do they build a rapport with each suspect or try to play them against one another? Do they try to trip up the suspects to catch them in a lie or play nice in the hope of uncovering more information than other teams? With the surge in popularity of the true crime genre, an online murder mystery is the perfect opportunity for players to take the skills they have learned from podcasts, tv shows, and movies and put them to the test!
Our virtual mystery games are 90 minutes long and include six live actors in character. To make sure that everyone gets a chance to participate, we divide your group out into smaller teams that work closely together. At the same time, the whole group comes back together frequently throughout the event and the friendly competition amongst teams makes it a cohesive experience for everyone. Our murder mystery team building activity is the perfect way for coworkers to bond and mingle with those they don’t work with every day in the office. We run our online murder mystery games for remote teams and coworkers who are in an office together, and everyone loves it – hear it from our clients themselves!

Virtual murder mystery team building means that everyone gets engaged. Participants don’t just watch what is happening – they are in the driver’s seat! Each suspect holds evidence, so coworkers must work together and ask the right questions to get to the bottom of it! Teams get to review text messages, listen to voicemails, review plane tickets, and much more.
But it’s not just about figuring out who did it! To be the champion of this murder mystery online, teams must also figure out each suspect’s alibi and motive. They also get bonus points for catching a suspect in a lie. Everyone is lying about something…it’s just a matter of figuring out what.
After interrogating each suspect and reviewing as much evidence as they can collect, teams get some time together to deliberate. And no online murder mystery party would be complete without announcing who got it right!

Our online murder mystery games include six live actors, in character as the suspects. As players move from suspect to suspect, they are taken on a lively and entertaining journey, from the demure (or is she deceitful?) Delilah to the angsty (or is he ashamed?) Archie. No other virtual murder mystery has as many actors for the same price. We can even host very large groups because our format allows us to provide more than one of each suspect with no impact on the experience.
At Escapely, we don’t want clients to have to choose between an elaborate event with multiple characters, small group interaction, and large group cohesiveness – so we built an event that has it all. Players get plenty of small group bonding during the suspect interviews, but in between interrogations, the whole group comes together to view new evidence that the lead investigator has uncovered! The number of actors combined with the smooth run of the show make this online murder mystery the best on the market.
While we are big fans of in-person events, especially our Amazing Escape Races, virtual murder mysteries are convenient, more cost-effective, and allow for more small group bonding than live murder mystery theater. Our murder mystery corporate event is designed for individual interaction and participants feel as though they are right there with the characters and each other. They are able to interact and ask whatever questions they would like.
We can host groups who are all together in one office or spread out across the world. There is no prep-work and participants will not have to learn any lines, play any characters, or download any materials. We also differ from other murder and mystery games online in that we can host large groups while still ensuring everyone gets individual attention!
Nothing needs to be downloaded or printed prior to our online murder mystery games. We do provide an optional detective journal that can be printed in advance, but it’s just as easy to use whatever scratch paper is on hand. All you need is access to Zoom (or the video conferencing platform of your choice) and Google Forms. Don’t worry, we have a workaround for companies that cannot access Google Forms. There is no other preparation needed!
Escapely’s murder mystery team building event was specifically designed for corporate groups to encourage interaction, collaboration, and communication. This event is not dinner theater that participants watch like a movie. It’s a murder mystery party game online! Participants will not watch actors deliver a monologue. Instead, the players drive the conversation and interact with the suspects as though they are really interrogating them – you might be surprised by the investigative sides of people that come out! At the end, each team deliberates and needs to agree on all of their accusations before submitting.
None at all. What sets our murder mystery team building game apart is that it is completely hosted by us – with live suspects! There is no prep-work necessary. Participants get to play investigator and grill our incredible actors in character as the suspects. It’s immersive and best of all, a blast.
Yes, our virtual murder mysteries are completely hosted. An emcee, in character as the lead investigator, will be there to greet you, explain the rules, and guide you through the entire 90-minute experience!
Our corporate murder mystery games can host groups as small as five and as large as 600 participants. It’s the same experience regardless because for larger groups, we provide more than one of each character. For groups with budget concerns, the cost structure of the murder mystery makes them the best fit for groups of 25-120. That said, we have had groups of all sizes play – it all depends on your preference! And of course, we offer incredible virtual escape games and virtual trivia events for groups looking for something different.
Our virtual murder mystery is a 90-minute experience. It is just enough time for an intro, five interrogation sessions, some group evidence review, deliberation with your team, and of course, the awards ceremony! When necessary we can condense into as little as 75-minutes, but unfortunately any shorter than that would take too much away from the experience. Companies looking for a shorter event should look into our virtual escape games and virtual trivia events which can fit into 30-minute and 60-minute timeframes.
Our game is clue and evidence based. While the suspects do stick to the facts and stay in character no matter what, participants can ask the suspects any questions they like! The characters will ad-lib and might say things you aren’t expecting. However, it’s up to the players to uncover the evidence. The characters won’t give it up unless they hear the right questions!
The price of our online murder mystery games is dependent on your group size, your preferred date and time, and the size of the individual teams. In general, you should expect a virtual murder mystery to be $30-$60 per person. For smaller groups, the per-person price will be more expensive because we provide the same number of live actors even for very small groups. For larger groups, there is more flexibility. Coworkers who want to maximize individual attention with small teams can choose more than one of each suspect. For companies with a stricter budget, we can increase the team sizes to bring down per-person costs.
The date and time also influences cost because there are certain days of the week, like Thursday and Friday, that we tend to be fully booked. Fall and winter, through the end of December, also tend to be more busy. But on days that we are less busy, it is possible to give discounts.
Though this is a premium experience, we are always committed to making it work whenever possible for any budget. The best way to get an accurate price for your specific event details is to reach out for a quote!
Our virtual murder mystery can easily accommodate hybrid teams! When some players are in the office together but other players are working remotely, the event organizer must decide whether the remote workers and in-office employees will be grouped separately or together. If the in-office coworkers will be on teams with one another, we always recommend putting everyone on the same team in the same conference room. The suspects can then be broadcast on a large screen in the conference room so that everyone can ask questions together.
If the event organizer prefers that those working remotely and those working in the office be mixed up together, then we suggest that each participant dial in on a personal computer. This ensures that every participant can hear everyone else on their team and that everyone has the exact same experience regardless of where they are. In this scenario, those working in the office should wear headphones.
