The best outdoor escape room experience in the Castro, SF

Outdoor escape room Castro SF

This escape room adventure around the SF Castro neighborhood takes the best parts of an escape room and the best parts of a scavenger hunt and merges them into the most fun thing to do in San Francisco. You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to go look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, this Escapely adventure takes you around the Castro to track down ghosts in SF and reunite two star-crossed lovers!

This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in San Francisco, right in the heart of the Castro. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our SF Castro escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way.

Escapely's San Francisco Castro outdoor escape room takes place in the heart of the Castro. It's a small neighborhood so you will walk around a bit and see most of it. The Castro is known for its distinct character and unusual sightings so you might see a group on the street holding a wake or an interpretive dance. You never know and we encourage you to take it all in while also using care when planning to play with young kids. The first puzzle will take you to the Castro theater. Next, you'll head up and down Castro St looking for signs, plaques, engravings, and other clues.

The final part of our Castro outdoor escape room will take you to Jane Warner Plaza, which has become known as one of the best places in San Francisco to people watch and enjoy a coffee. Speaking of which, there are plenty of drink options in the Castro as it is known for its nightlife. If you end the escape room in the early evening, we highly recommend sticking around to visit a local bar and check out the scene.

Yes, but it is not generally recommended unless you are a serious escape room enthusiast. It would be like playing an escape room that has the same storyline and similar puzzles, but with different clues available. Because the clues are integrated throughout the Castro in San Francisco, the clues themselves are different from all other Relic games. But the puzzles will feel very familiar.
The Castro is a lively and vibrant neighborhood situated in a small area, making it walkable and accessible to find clues. It was one of the first gay neighborhoods in the US so there is plenty of history. Among other things, you can visit the Harvey Milk Plaza and you will even encounter an homage to Harvey Milk as you play the game. As any San Francisco resident knows, San Francisco is a place that accepts people being themselves, sometimes with little clothing and sometimes in song and dance. Many people celebrate the special culture and fun happenings you might encounter in the Castro, but if you're someone who might be a bit more timid, you should keep this in mind.
It's both! In a traditional escape room you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next to escape the room (or a series of rooms). In Escape the City you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next, with clues in the real world. It's one of the best things to do in SF!
The Castro has street parking, like the rest of San Francisco. However, the Castro is easily accessible by public transportation. We highly recommend utilizing that if possible!
There are no indoor clues in our SF Castro escape room game. Everything is publicly accessible.
It's a self-guided adventure around the Castro for couples, families, individuals, friend groups, and anyone else looking for a fun thing to do in SF!
