The Best Outdoor Escape Room Experience in New York City
Outdoor Escape Room NYC
This outdoor escape room adventure around Central Park takes the best parts of an escape room and a scavenger hunt and combines them into the most fun thing to do in NYC. You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, an Escapely adventure takes you around New York City's famous Central Park, starting near the 79th Street entrance on the Upper East Side.
This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in Manhattan. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure around Central Park to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our NYC escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way. Escapely's New York escape room begins with an invitation to the Queen of Heart's royal tea party - but you quickly learn that the Queen has cursed Alice and all of Wonderland, and it's up to you to break that curse. We suggest starting on the Met steps where you have some space to sit down and solve. As you crack codes and advance throughout the escape game, you'll find clues at Greywacke Arch, Belvedere Castle, and the Shakespeare Garden. A fun stretch of the game takes you through the Ramble, a wooded part of Central Park. Then you'll cross Bow Bridge and continue to Bethesda Fountain and Bethesda Terrace. Finally, of course, since the theme of our New York escape room game is Alice in Wonderland, you'll get to visit the Alice in Wonderland statue by the Central Park boat pond. If you play with kids, they will probably want to stop and climb on the statue. This is a popular spot for proposals and as a matter of fact, we have had several players propose right here after finishing the game! If you didn't stop to have a picnic along the way, this is a perfect spot to end the game.

An outdoor escape room that's a guided tour of Central Park
This escape room style puzzle was loads of fun. As a native New Yorker, I got to enjoy Central Park in a brand new way – The scenery was gorgeous! The puzzle was challenging in a fun way, and is fun for multiple skill levels. The app UI was user friendly and was a great companion piece to the physical puzzle that you receive. This purchase far exceeded my expectations!

Escape Box/Real World Combo
This box is the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys escape rooms. It provides the fun of the puzzles and games if a toon combined with getting out and enjoying the sites. The game is easy to start with the QR code on the box and provides plenty of instruction and hints for both beginners and experts. The price for each of the boxes is reasonable. And although they have boxes for several cities the only real downside is you are limited to where you live or are visiting.

Interesting... but you have to be in a major city to play.
A very interesting take on an escape room — but the drawback here is you have to be lucky enough to live in a big city. I accidentally chose New York City without knowing this, but I think it may work with Google Maps as well. It seems like a really fun way to explore the city.
The box also came with a really beautiful Alice in Wonderland necklace — a stack of teacups. That’s my favorite part! I’d love to try the San Francisco box.

A unique and challenging game for this locals and tourists alike!
My boyfriend took me to Central Park for my birthday. We arrived at the Met and he pulled out the Escapely box. I was so excited! We love escape rooms, so this was a cool new experience.
It took a few minutes before we figured out how to solve the first puzzle. I thought it was a good challenge. We got stumped by the next puzzle, but the hints were very helpful and I appreciated how they were tiered as to not give away too much help too quickly. Then we were off through the park, going down paths we would’ve never explored otherwise, despite living in the city for years. The mix of real-world clues and help from QR codes was such an interesting way to experience Central Park. We weren’t rushing through the game, but I kind of expected us to finish quickly as we are both gamers. I was wrong (in a good way)! Between the walking and puzzle-solving, we took the full 3 hours to complete the game, and actually ran into a few other couples doing the game as well. I was pleasantly surprised by just how many envelopes we still had left to open after we’d completed a few puzzles.
I was happy with the level of difficulty. Some sections were easy, others were harder. I’d definitely play again and will try to play Escapely in a new city if I get the chance.
