    Fun haunted Theme Puzzle in Old Town Chicago

    We had a great time with Escapely Chicago Old Town. We used Escapely the year before (Chicago Fulton Market), so this was our second box.

    This round, it was just me, my wife and our 9-year-old daughter. Our daughter loved all of the hands-on items in the box and did a great job noticing small things that the grownups might have overlooked. My wife and I were able to help with some of the more challenging puzzles. We enjoyed the haunted theme of the box, and loved coming back to Old Town, where we used to live.

    I would say that the difficulty was perfect for grownups, and kids over probably 8 years old would be able to help with the puzzles. Any younger and it’s probably too challenging. We only had to use hints once or twice. The time of the box was perfect as well; we got to the city in the morning, solved the puzzles and then headed to nearby Pequod’s for lunch.

    The only constructive feedback would be to see more of Old Town. Most of the puzzles are within a couple blocks on Wells Street, just north of North Avenue, with some right by the Chicago History Museum. Although it would have certainly extended the time to complete, there’s definitely more of Old Town to see.

    But overall we had a great time and would highly recommend. We are a repeat customer and will be using Escapely again in the future.

    This is a must do adventure!

    Oh my goodness! This was an absolute blast. I was tasked with finding a team building event for our team of 8 with a low budget. We are all different demographically ( old/ young, active/ not so much). It was tough to get a few of the guys on board as they are just reluctant to engage in team building. But by the end of the hunt, we had everybody fully engaged and having a blast.
    It wasn’t too hard, and absolutely not too easy. I think it took us about 2 and 1/2 hours to complete. This was such a good escape room, venture out into downtown and team building event. I couldn’t have asked for anything better!
    This was an overall amazing adventure whether it’s as a team building, group of friends or even a family/kids event!

You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to go look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, this Escapely adventure takes you around Chicago's Old Town neighborhood to track down ghosts and reunite two star-crossed lovers!

This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in Chicago's Old Town. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our Chicago escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way.

Escapely's Old Town Chicago outdoor escape room starts off at the iconic Old Town Chicago gate arch sign. It's a metal sign announcing the neighborhood that you'll definitely want to snap a picture with! Next you'll head to Franz Plaza, a small green park in Old Town. Then you'll head to Wells St, which is the heart of Old Town with vibrant bars, restaurants, and shops. You'll spend about 20 minutes up and down the street searching for clues and evaluating evidence.

The next part of our Chicago escape room takes you to the Chicago History Museum. You'll explore the beautiful Jaffee History Trail which winds behind the museum. It's beautiful (especially in the summer). In addition to the clues you'll need to find for the escape room, you can spend a little time learning about native plants, viewing the sculptures (look up high!), and learning about Chicago's indigenous history and the Potawatomi language. After you escape, our app will even suggest a spot to go close out the game with a drink and some food.

Yes, but it is not generally recommended unless you are a serious escape room enthusiast. It would be like playing an escape room that has the same storyline and similar puzzles, but with different clues available. Because the clues are integrated throughout Old Town Chicago, the clues themselves are different from all other Relic games. But the puzzles will feel very familiar.
Old Town is the perfect spot for an outdoor escape adventure around Chicago because its vibrant culture, arts scene, and walkability. The entire outdoor escape game takes place in walking distance around the neighborhood. It's also in the perfect location right between Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan with plenty to do before and after! It also happens to be where Second City comedy club is located. You might want to stop by and see the spot where so many famous comedians got their start!
It's both! In a traditional escape room you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next to escape the room (or a series of rooms). In Escape the City you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next, with clues in the real world. It's one of the best things to do in Chicago!
If possible, take public transportation to Old Town. Otherwise there are plenty of parking garages and street parking to take advantage of. You can park anywhere in Old Town to be walking distance to the game!
