The best outdoor escape room experience in San Diego, CA

Outdoor escape room San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

This escape room adventure around San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter takes the best parts of an escape room and the best parts of a scavenger hunt and merges them into the most fun thing to do in San Diego. You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to go look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, this Escapely adventure takes you around the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego to track down ghosts and reunite two star-crossed lovers!

This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in the Gaslamp Quarter. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our San Diego escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way.

Escapely's San Diego Gaslamp Quarter escape room starts off at the Frey Block building in the heart of the Gaslamp district. Even though it's now closed, it's a historical staple of the area. The next part of the outdoor escape room will take you down 5th Avenue, which is the busy downtown road through the Gaslamp Quarter featuring restaurants and nightlife! You'll have to evaluate ghost eyewitness accounts to determine who is telling the truth - and what better place to do it than the most iconic part of the Gaslamp neighborhood.

The next clue takes you to the carved stone Chinese lion sculptures outside of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum. They are carved from stone taken from the special Chinese holy mountain Mount Tai and were specially commissioned by the Historical Museum's founder. Finally, you'll visit the Children's Park on the grounds of the New Children's Museum. If you're playing with kids, you'll definitely want to stop in. If not, the grounds are a beautiful spot to snap a pic! After you escape, our app will even suggest a spot to go close out the game in the lively Gaslamp Quarter with a drink and some food.

Yes, but it is not generally recommended unless you are a serious escape room enthusiast. It would be like playing an escape room that has the same storyline and similar puzzles, but with different clues available. Because the clues are integrated throughout the Gaslamp Quarter, the clues themselves are different from all other Relic games. But the puzzles will feel very familiar.
The Gaslamp Quarter is known as the nightlife capitol of San Diego. This means it's a lively area with plenty of people, shops, eateries, and bars. It's very walkable so it's the perfect place to enjoy some time outdoors looking for clues - plus, in San Diego, the whether is always pretty close to perfect! We recommend playing the escape room during daylight hours, but the Gaslamp district comes alive at night, so stick around after you escape to grab some food and drinks.
It's both! In a traditional escape room you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next to escape the room (or a series of rooms). In Escape the City you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next, with clues in the real world. It's one of the best things to do in San Diego's Gaslamp neighborhood!
There are many paid garages, lots, and valet options in the Gaslamp Quarter. During the week, there are metered spots and on the weekends, many of them become free - if you can snag one!
There are no indoor clues in our Gaslamp San Diego outdoor escape room game. Everything is publicly accessible.
It's a self-guided adventure around the Gaslamp Quarter for couples, families, individuals, friend groups, and anyone else looking for a fun thing to do in San Diego!
