Enjoyable and stimulating way to rediscover my own city

My husband and I had a great time solving the clues, we felt they were the exact right level of difficulty, and the few times we did ask for clues, they helped without completely giving anything away. We’re new parents, and it was a lovely date activity for us that we could take our baby girl and pupper along with us. I especially loved that even though we’ve walked around that area of Santa Monica countless times, we noticed and examined things for the very first time, allowing us to feel like we were rediscovering the city.

Not a stay at home game. Choose a city you will visit

So full disclosure: I did not get to play this game because I didn’t put it together that you actually have to be in the city represented. I thought it would be something for my nephews to play while on winter break.

The included escape room kit is pretty thorough though and does seem like it would be a pretty fun adventure. There are lots of clues included in the kit to help you crack the case. Just make sure you will be traveling to the city that you pick.

Best Scavenger Hunt Company

I had already done an escapely game in Dallas, so when a friend was visiting I bought one for Santa Monica. The game is really well done. I like the different types of logic of the puzzles and the mix of phone clues and hands-on clues in the box. I’ve done a few other scavenger hunts through different companies and this one is, hands down, the best.

Fun for the whole family outdoors

We had a fantastic time with Escapely in Santa Monica! We did it with our 6, 9, and 12-year-olds, and it was perfect for the whole family. Each of the kids figured out different parts of the puzzle box, and it was so hands-on that everyone felt engaged and excited. The combination of solving puzzles and exploring the city was unique and made for a memorable experience. We loved walking around Santa Monica together, discovering new spots while working together as a team. It’s a great activity for families who love adventure and a little challenge. Highly recommend!

Escapely's Santa Monica escape room begins with Kevin, an alleged conspiracy theorist who wants your help proving Sandie, the Santa Monica Sea Monster, is real rather than a hoax. You think he sounds a little nuts, but decide to see if you can help. The crowds clamoring for a sight of Sandie have become so large and so passionate that you're even curious whether there's something to the rumors.

We suggest starting near the 3rd Street Promenade, which is close to your first clue. As you crack codes and advance throughout the escape game, you'll find clues at a coffee shop, the Santa Monica Pier, and a sculpture on the street. You will even get to walk down to the beach to see whether you can find evidence of a sea monster in the local waters! One of the clues will take you all the way out to the very end of the Santa Monica Pier for some beautiful views of the ocean.

Santa Monica is the perfect place for an outdoor escape room because the weather is almost always perfect all year round. Throughout the escape room you will walk around the area to find clues, and you'll get to walk all the way to the end of the Santa Monica Pier to feel the ocean breeze! If you have some extra time and you're there with kids, we highly recommend taking advantage of some of the rides and attractions. And even if not, there are plenty of spots to grab a bite to eat or drink after you play...or even while you solve the final puzzle. For your shopping fix, you can also stop by the 3rd Street Promenade, which happens to be our recommended starting location for the escape room.

There is one business that you will need to enter, but you will not need to make a purchase or interact with staff (though we recommend grabbing something!). You just need to enter to find a clue. Everything else is outside.
