10/10 excellent game!! Very well-made this one!!

As an avid escape room goer (50-100 rooms), I would rate this outdoor escape room as excellent! There were new puzzle mechanisms involved in this game that I’ve never encountered at other escape rooms before which was really cool. The game had a really good variety of easy, medium, and challenging puzzles. The secret agent storyline was very entertaining as well and I loved all the places that the game led us to. My friend and I loved this Little Tokyo version and now we can’t wait to try the other ones!

    A fun afternoon!

We had a lot of fun doing this game yesterday! It brought us to areas we haven’t explored very much, even though we used to live downtown, and it was a lot of fun. It was definitely challenging, but in positive ways – we used a lot of hints, but my husband and I each had moments where we surprised the other one by figuring something unexpected out.

    Fun Way to Explore

My wife and I had so much fun playing Escape the City in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. We found the puzzles to be clear and mostly just challenging enough to make us pause and really think without getting stuck for too long. It was also a great way to see more of a neighborhood we haven’t spent enough time in and to learn some of its history.

    I love these games.

So much fun! This is my 3rd city for Escape the City! These games are a fun way to explore & stretch your brain. Please note the storylines are basically the same regardless of the city if the cities have the same theme. I’ve played Sacramento & Little Tokyo which are both Spy Hunter themed. So if you played spy hunter theme before, you will know how to solve the puzzles. Regardless, you can still have a great time if you have someone join you that hasn’t played before. You can be the hint master & enjoy seeing how others approach solving the puzzles. Plus the sights/locations will be different even though you are solving the same puzzle. I’m looking forward to trying the Bespoke version of the game!

Great experience exploring new parts of the city- family friendly!

Had a terrific time! Went with our family- Grandma, mom, dad and 11 year old daughter. Everyone had a lot of fun solving the clues. My daughter loved it- she said her favorite part was “All of it! I liked the puzzles!” It led to a better appreciation of the city and we discovered some great new spots to visit!

The best Los Angeles escape room experience

About the escape room game

This escape room adventure around Little Tokyo takes the best parts of an escape room and the best parts of a scavenger hunt and merges them into the most fun thing to do in LA. You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to go look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, this Escapely adventure takes you around downtown Los Angeles to track down clues and expose double agents!

This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in downtown LA. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our Little Tokyo escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way.

In Escapely's downtown LA escape room, you are a top secret spy tasked with exposing a ring of double agents threatening to take down the agency. We suggest starting at Grand Central Market in the heart of Little Tokyo. It's a vibrant upscale food court with an eclectic array of food choices - a great way to fuel up before starting the escape room. To get to your first clue, walk through a quaint alley to Biddy Mason Memorial Park. On the way, keep an eye out for the pasta making often going on behind big glass windows at the past shop you'll pass on your right. Biddy Mason was a freed slave who went on to amass some real estate wealth and became a prominent philanthropist. She owned the plot of land where this park now sits.

The next puzzle will take you to the Sister Cities sign, showing the distance from downtown Los Angeles to each of LA's sister cities. The next clue is the monument to Japanese-American astronaut Ellison Onizuka. He was the first Asian American as well as the first person of Japanese origin to reach space. He successfully reached space aboard the Discovery but sadly died in the Challenger explosion. You will then visit the Home is Little Tokyo mural which pays a colorful homage to Little Tokyo's history. In the center of the mural, you can see an adult and two children lighting candles, which is a tradition to remember the unjust treatment of marginalized groups throughout world history. To end the game, head into the Japanese Village Plaza which is just a few steps from the end of the game to enjoy some fresh takoyaki and other Japanese specialty food and shops!

LA escape room FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes, but it is not generally recommended unless you are a serious escape room enthusiast. It would be like playing an escape room that has the same storyline and similar puzzles, but with different clues available. Because the clues are integrated within Little Tokyo, the clues are different from all other Spyhunter games. But the puzzles will feel familiar.
LA's Little Tokyo is one of only three official Japantowns in the US (the other two are in San Francisco and San Jose). That alone is one of the reasons we chose this neighborhood for this outdoor escape room. Little Tokyo is a small neighborhood that is easy to walk around, so you can navigate the whole game on foot. The area is rich with history and of course, filled with delicious Japanese food. From ramen to gyoza to takoyaki, there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat and drink after the escape room. The game ends at Little Tokyo Plaza, an outdoor mall for pedestrians only that has restaurants and shops, including one that sells official Sanrio merchandise. For an extra dose of culture you can visit the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple or the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, which has a beautiful and peaceful outdoor garden.
It's both! In a traditional escape room you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next to escape the room (or a series of rooms). In Escape the City you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next, with clues in the real world. It's one of the best things to do in LA's Little Tokyo!
There are public garages throughout Little Tokyo. To be close to the start of the game, park near Grand Central Market. If ride share is an option, that's an easy way to get to and from the game. Once you're there, everything is in walking distance.
There are no indoor clues in our Little Tokyo escape room game. Everything is publicly accessible.
It's a self-guided adventure around Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles for couples, families, individuals, friend groups, and anyone else looking for a fun thing to do in LA!
