The Best Outdoor Escape Room Experience in New York City
Outdoor Escape Room NYC
This outdoor escape room adventure around Central Park takes the best parts of an escape room and a scavenger hunt and combines them into the most fun thing to do in NYC. You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, an Escapely adventure takes you around New York City's famous Central Park, starting near the 79th Street entrance on the Upper East Side.
This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in Manhattan. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure around Central Park to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our NYC escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way. Escapely's New York escape room begins with an invitation to the Queen of Heart's royal tea party - but you quickly learn that the Queen has cursed Alice and all of Wonderland, and it's up to you to break that curse. We suggest starting on the Met steps where you have some space to sit down and solve. As you crack codes and advance throughout the escape game, you'll find clues at Greywacke Arch, Belvedere Castle, and the Shakespeare Garden. A fun stretch of the game takes you through the Ramble, a wooded part of Central Park. Then you'll cross Bow Bridge and continue to Bethesda Fountain and Bethesda Terrace. Finally, of course, since the theme of our New York escape room game is Alice in Wonderland, you'll get to visit the Alice in Wonderland statue by the Central Park boat pond. If you play with kids, they will probably want to stop and climb on the statue. This is a popular spot for proposals and as a matter of fact, we have had several players propose right here after finishing the game! If you didn't stop to have a picnic along the way, this is a perfect spot to end the game.

Escaping Central Park
This was awesome! Especially being in NY for the first time. The concept and the idea behind this game was very brilliant. It wasn’t too difficult and it wasn’t too easy. The only thing I’d say is be prepared to do a lot of walking 😂

Great way to experience Central Park
This was our second Escapely experience (we had previously played the Boston game) and we had a blast. The game is perfectly themed and takes great advantage of the Central Park environment. We all had different levels of familiarity with Central Park, from first timers to frequent visitors, and even the frequent visitors saw things in the park they hadn’t experienced before. The puzzles provide the right amount of challenge to make you think but also to keep the game moving forward. We have had so much fun with the Escapely games we can’t wait to experience new cities through their lens.
While the Central Park game capitalized on the unique theming native to the park, one thing to watch out for (and I applaud Escapely for highlighting this on their website) is some cities use the same game and similar puzzles. We will be in San Diego next month and noticed the warning that it is the same underlying story as other spyhunter games which included the Boston game we had already played. Over time it would be great if they could find more ways to tailor each game to the city similar to the Central Park game

Family Fun exploring Central Park
Great fun! We had a group of 5 (ages 12, 14, 27, 53, 56) and found we each excelled at different tasks. Fun way to explore the park.

We loved the game
We loved the game — it was fun and really entertaining! We did it as a family with our 13-year-old daughter, who was very engaged and solved most of the puzzles. The difficulty level was just right. It took us a little over three hours, and we enjoyed discovering new places and hidden paths in Central Park. We heard about it on Facebook

A really unique experience and a great way to see Central Park
Super fun and unique experience! It’s a really cool story woven in some key central park icons. Great for folks new to Central Park, but honestly even better for locals that visit often!!
We got rained on halfway but took some shelter in Bethesda Terrace, it was a super memorable summer New York experience!
