    Escapely in The Rocks, Sydney

My friends and I had a great experience in The Rocks in Sydney with Escapely. The cost was reasonable and a cheap day out for all of us. The experience lasted about 3 hours but we did take our time. It was a great way to explore a beautiful city.

I had so much fun doing this it actually inspired me to try and make some of my own outdoor escape rooms for my friends !

    Fun group activity

Loved seeing ‘hidden’ parts of the Sydney Harbour that we wouldn’t normally look at. The puzzles ranged in easy to challenging but as a group we got there! Very satisfying.

    So fun !

What an absolute blast! We had the best time — it was challenging, hilarious, and full of surprises. There were moments where we thought we’d never figure it out, but somehow we pulled it together in the end. It’s one of those activities that really gets everyone involved and laughing. My advice? Bring a clever friend or two, because it’s definitely trickier than it seems at first glance!

Great unique challenge - had a blast!

Was so excited to play this after seeing it all over Facebook! And it did not disappoint. So much fun.
The difficulty level was great. We did it as a group of 5 and, as self proclaimed experts at these things (with about 10 escape rooms up our sleeves), found this had a good balance of being challenging (really made us think!) and simple enough to understand so we didn’t get frustrated. It had such a unique combination of having to use things we could see in the real world and the game pieces in the box. It was really clever the way it was done.
Would definitely be up for doing more – loved that we got to do it at our own pace. Website was so easy to follow. Such a great day out!

    Easy clean fun

The experience took me about 2.5 hours altogether, with no breaks. It was around 2.7 km total walking. It cost $94.99 to get the box shipped to Sydney from Nevada. Great for families, dates, friends, coworkers. I played solo and solved everything myself (with some hints).
There’s minor issues where the clues/directions are either inaccurate, or not as helpful as they could be. For example, they said to “walk along the pathway between the park and the water” but actually, I had to walk a few meters past the park. For this reason, I walked around unnecessarily, not realizing that the necessary clue was slightly farther down the path, beyond park borders.
Also, the Escapely website says to play during daylight but if your eyes are working decently well, you can play the Sydney game at any time of day.

The best Sydney escape room experience

About the escape room game

This escape room adventure around Sydney Harbour takes the best parts of an escape room and the best parts of a scavenger hunt and merges them into the most fun thing to do in Sydney. You get to search for clues hidden in the real world and then use them to solve escape room puzzles. When you solve for a code, the app will tell you where to go look for your next clue! Instead of trying to escape the room, this Escapely adventure takes you around Sydney Harbour to track down ghosts and reunite two star-crossed lovers!

This real world escape room is the most unique escape room in Sydney. It takes you on a clue-solving adventure to find clues, solve puzzles, and follow an immersive storyline. If you want to keep the experience a surprise, don't read this next bit - it contains some spoilers about where you'll go on our Sydney escape room adventure and what you'll see along the way.

Escapely's Sydney escape room starts at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. You'll search for your first clue at the entrance facing the water and enjoy a gorgeous view of the Sydney Opera House. There are no escape room clues inside the museum, but it's worth a visit to see some of Australia's finest contemporary artists. Next, you'll walk along Sydney Harbour in search of clues along your path. While you walk, enjoy the bustling harbour, ships, and of course the views.

The next part of our Sydney outdoor escape room will take you to Macquarie Place Park, a small triangular urban park in the heart of the city. It's on the site of the original Sydney town square. Finally, walk over to Herald Square to search for clues in the famous Tank Fountain, showcasing animals native to Australia. If you have time, since you're in the area, we highly recommend walking all the way to Sydney Opera House for some pictures and to enjoy the view along the way. It's slightly uphill on the way there, but worth it. Then head to one of the many restaurants in the area to celebrate "escaping" Sydney Harbour!

Yes, but it is not generally recommended unless you are a serious escape room enthusiast. It would be like playing an escape room that has the same storyline and similar puzzles, but with different clues available. Because the clues are integrated throughout Sydney Harbour, the clues themselves are different from all other Relic games. But the puzzles will feel very familiar.
Sydney Harbour is a beautiful area with breathtaking views of the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the entire harbour area. It's a walkable area with plenty to see for locals and tourists alike. The Sydney Opera House itself doesn't include a clue in this escape room, but it's close to the route and worth a visit. Also nearby are the Sydney Botanic Gardens, which overlook Sydney Harbour. They're also the oldest botanic gardens in Australia. The rest of the escape room takes you a walk around the harbour and into the neighborhood to see several urban parks and a famous fountain. It's chock full of photo-opportunities! It's the perfect spot for a Sydney outdoor escape room.
It's both! In a traditional escape room you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next to escape the room (or a series of rooms). In Escape the City you must solve puzzles that lead from one to the next, with clues in the real world. It's one of the best things to do in Sydney!
There are paid parking garages throughout Sydney Harbour that are well-marked and easy to find. If possible, there are also ferries, buses, and trains that service the area. Once you get there, the entire escape game is in walking distance.
There are no indoor clues in our Sydney escape room game. Everything is publicly accessible.
It's a self-guided adventure around Sydney Harbour for couples, families, individuals, friend groups, and anyone else looking for a fun thing to do in Sydney!
